One of the comments at his journal pegs the problem--wasn't the whole point of the Advisory Board that Livejournal would ask you "Hey, is this likely to get people breaking out the pitchforks and torches?" before doing something like the URL-rewriting thing?
Heh. No. That's what LJ *wanted* people to believe. What the AdvisBoard is really for is "we want to get more money from the userbase; how can we pitch [newfeature] so that it doesn't raise hackles?"
